Hövding Airbag Bicycle Helmet
Hövding Airbag Bicycle Helmet is the world's safest biking helmet. Offering by far the best shock absorption capacity, it consists of two parts: a collar and a cover.
Wearing the airbag helmet is effortless for the user, as remarkable consideration has been placed on design and modern-day demands. The collar is stylish and easy to wear around the neck, keeping the life-saving airbag helmet wrapped under covers until impact. For the urban cyclist, this makes wearing your favourite beanie or letting your hair flow in the wind possible.
The collar encloses the airbag system that protects the head. The collar is made of black, waterproof, dirt-repellent functional fabric that rests comfortably around your neck. It is easy to put on, with a centre front zip. A hook on the inside of the collar allows you to hang up your Hövding.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Through advanced sensors and a unique algorithm, Hövding detects the cyclist’s movement patterns and reacts, inflating in 0,1 second in case of an accident. The specialized airbag inflates to cover your head and fixates the neck to provide you with the best protection on the market - up to 8 times better than a traditional helmet.
Hövding is switched on with an on/off button, placed visibly on the popper of the zip. A sound and a light confirm that Hövding is on and alert. When switched off at the end of the bike ride, Hövding will not activate or deploy.
An independent Stanford University study found that Hövding airbag technology protects the head and neck 8 times more effectively than standard bicycle helmets (more info in the attachment above).
A number of tests conducted in 2016 in Sweden showed that Hövding’s unique design – an airbag that in the event of an accident expands to become both thicker and softer than a traditional helmet – reduces the risk of concussion up to eight times and almost completely eliminates the risk of skull fracture.
When choosing the right size, please measure your neck circumference and choose the size accordingly (see photo).
PUTTING YOUR HÖVDING ON:
- Place it around your neck and pull the zip up under your chin. The zip needs to be completely closed for the collar to work correctly.
- Only activate Hövding when cycling. For activation, attach the button on the zip tag to the right-hand side of the collar. Similarly, Hövding is deactivated when you unclip the button. Hövding should always be deactivated when you are not cycling.
When sound and light indicate a low battery level, Hövding is recharged with the help of the USB cable supplied. A fully charged battery lasts for approx. 9 hrs of cycling.
The airbag helmet has a lifespan of minimum 7 years. Once the airbag has inflated, the helmet should not be used again.
In the unlikely event that the helmet should inflate when correctly used during urban cycling but without an actual impact, a new Hövding will be substituted.
The airbag fixates the neck and provides extremely soft and gentle shock absorption. When inflated, the helmet will hold air for 6 seconds before starting to deflate. This makes it able to withstand multiple head impacts during the same accident.
The gas inflator is a so called cold gas inflator that uses helium. It is placed in a holder in the collar on the cyclist’s back.
The airbag is designed like a hood and made in an ultra-strong nylon fabric that won’t rip when scraped against the ground. The inflated airbag covers a much larger area than a traditional cycle helmet and is designed according to current accident statistics.
Please note that the product cannot be tested for inflation. The collar lights and sounds will keep the user informed on the on/off status and battery life.
Hövding is waterproof and CE-approved.
